On Wednesday, December 18th, we held the first study meeting for "PET-MATSURI," a sub-project of MATSURI that aims to produce 100% bio-based PET resin using algae.
A total of 34 people from our partners who expressed their intention to participate in PET-MATSURI attended.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Oshima, who is leading PET-MATSURI, emphasized that the study group for this project is not a one-way information sharing event, but rather a forum for active exchange of opinions and information with all participants. We also explained that we would proceed using a system that alternates between closed and semi-open discussions, where we would delve deeper into individual discussions (closed) based on the information exchanged at the study group, and then share any issues that arise there at the study group (semi-open).
This time, we mainly shared the progress regarding the target compounds of this project and part of the flow from algae cultivation to resin molding, and invited your opinions, requests, and ideas for solving the issues and considerations that were raised in the process.
Finally, he explained that PET-MATSURI is one of the concrete measures to build an algae industry in order to realize MATSURI's basic idea of "shifting from a fossil fuel-based society to a bio-based society," and that he would like to use it not just as a replacement for the raw materials of existing products, but as a tool to embody a bio-based society.
We are also planning to exhibit a prototype of PET-MATSURI at the Osaka Kansai Expo next year, and hope to work together with everyone to make this a project that will attract even more attention.
