We participated in BioJapan2024, held at Pacifico Yokohama from Wednesday, October 9th to Friday, October 11th. BioJapan 2024 is one of the largest partnering events in Asia, where domestic and international bio-related companies, research institutes, and universities come together to conduct joint research and explore business partners. At MATSURI, we introduced our results to date at two booths together with the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), a national research and development agency.
"Initiatives toward the industrialization of microalgae"
IMAT (Japan Microalgae Technology Association) is a Hiroshima-based incorporated association established for the purpose of promoting the industrial use of microalgae and the development of related technologies. Junpei Nomura, a seconded employee from Chitose Laboratory, serves as IMAT Secretary General and Shinichi Aoki serves as Director of the Research and Development Department.
During BioJapan, Nomura, Aoki, and BioEngineer Yoshimi Noboru from Hiroshima Prefecture visited us and explained about algae cultivation technology and the association's activities.
Chitose is promoting the MATSURI project in cooperation with IMAT regarding various standards and regulations necessary for the establishment of the algae industry, with a view to developing research and development and building a value chain through industrialization.
"Building a global industry originating from Japan based on the direct use of CO2 through photosynthesis"
Senior Manager Aiko Hayashi, Manager Shogo Yoshida, Manager Fuha Inozaki, and Researcher Haruka Seki introduced the large-scale algae production facility "CHITOSE Carbon Capture Central" in Malaysia and the development of applications for algae biomass, which are part of the NEDO Green Innovation Fund Project (GI Fund Project) that aims to build new industries using algae. They also introduced MATSURI to many people, and were able to appeal to the constant stream of visitors from Japan and abroad about the potential of the algae business.

In addition, Chitose is a cooperating company and is technically supervising the algae exhibit at the Japan Pavilion of the Osaka Kansai Expo, which is scheduled to be held in April 2025, entitled "Expo MATSURI." The official Expo mascot, Myakumyaku, who was visiting BioJapan, came to support the algae exhibit.
