On Wednesday, March 5th, we held an online information sharing session for MATSURI partners entitled " General Information Sharing on Algae ." As the final MATSURI event of the year, we shared information on general activities such as algae production and application development, and 145 people participated.

Chitose Group CEO Tomohiro Fujita announced that the number of MATSURI partners has reached 106, and once again expressed his gratitude to everyone who has participated. He also shared the current status of algae production and the progress toward building an even larger algae production facility. He also explained the plan to expand activities from algae to the bioeconomy in general from April 2025, and reiterated MATSURI's important values.

Status of C4 operation and 100 ha facility construction
Next, Executive Officer and Chief BioEngineer Takahito Hoshino shared the progress of algae production. He reported on new progress at CHITOSE Carbon Capture Central (C4), a large-scale production facility currently in operation in Kuching, Malaysia, including efforts to resolve issues at the production site that had been previously shared.

Overview of application development progress
Regarding the development of applications for algae biomass, Executive Officer and Chief Innovation Officer Ken Kasahara gave an overview, followed by the progress shared by the person in charge of each theme. General Manager Shunsuke Oshima reported on the progress of the development of 100% bio-PET resin made from algae. He shared the future mission in terms of technology, facilities for scale-up, and branding. He also introduced the world's first initiative using algae biomass, which was jointly developed with MATSURI partners, and called for accelerating efforts to build an algae industry in collaboration with each company. Senior Manager Aiko Hayashi introduced the development of algae-derived lubricants and cosmetics that are being carried out in collaboration with partners, and shared the outlook for expanding the development targets and commercialization process from next year onwards. Senior Manager Miyuki Yanagimachi spoke about the approach to creating an environment in which algae food development can be more widely accepted, and introduced a number of examples produced in collaboration with various manufacturers this year. He also introduced the Te-no-miyage MATSURI project, which was launched with the aim of using te-no-miyage as a means to express "activities to build the world's first microalgae-based industry," and called for participation partners.

Progress of application development

Towards expanding MATSURI
Manager Fuuha Inozaki, who is in charge of expanding MATSURI, spoke about the importance of expanding the circle of partners in the future as MATSURI expands its activities beyond algae to the bioeconomy in general. He said that he would like to continue to expand the circle of MATSURI with the continued cooperation of partners in order to expand the scope of discussion, enrich the value chain, and improve MATSURI's credibility in order to build a new industry.

EXPO MATSURI
Shiryu Kirie, Senior BioEngineer in charge of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, where Chitose Group will cooperate as technical supervisor and MATSURI will be a sponsor of the Expo, introduced the exhibits at the Japan Pavilion and expressed his growing expectations for the Expo.

About MATSURI from 2025
Finally, General Manager Azusa Yamagishi gave an update on MATSURI's activities from next year, which will expand to cover the entire bioeconomy. She also announced the launch of new projects and upcoming MATSURI events, promising to further invigorate the organization's activities.

MATSURI will hold information sharing sessions to promote the bioeconomy.
