DAIWA ITAGAMI, a paper recycling company in Osaka, and CHITOSE, which builds a circular society based on biotechnology, have collaborated. "Itagami" meaning paperboard is the thickest type of paper and is used for packaging such as decorative boxes.
By collaborating with paper products and algae, which we often come into contact with, algae should become a part of our daily lives, rather than something special. What kind of works will be created when "paperboard," which is made from plants and represents a circular society, meets "algae," which will support new industries? We look forward to your support!

100 Crafts Challenges Vol.3 “Possibility of Craftworks x Dyeing” What kind of craftworks will be created when "paperboard," which is made from plants and represents a circular society, meets "algae," which will support new industries? This collaboration was realized in the hope that something familiar, such as a cosmetic box, would help people imagine their daily lives with algae.

Chris, Designer and Researcher

I think the most familiar bio-based material is paper.

Chima, Designer

Paper is something we use on a daily basis, such as for taking notes or shipping boxes.

DAIWA ITAGAMI

Paper is a familiar material that's being recycled. Recycled paper, made from discarded used paper, is pervasive in our daily lives. DAIWA ITAGAMI makes the thickest type of itagami, paperboard. Paperboard is used for boxes, etc., as you know.

Chris

Paperboard, a representative of the circular economy, and algae, which supports a sustainable society, should be a good match.

Mr. Spiru

How do we become paperboards?

Daiwa Itagami

In the manufacturing process, you, Mr. Spiru and pup are mixed and plowed into the paper.

Mr. Spiru

I can't believe it! I can be such beautiful paper.

Chima, Designer

It would be wonderful if more and more algae products are put in a decorative box made of this paperboard. It looks like it could be processed into many different things. Ideas keep coming!
